• Now ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3, and ASL Honors!

When I first started with OPHS in 2013, I learned that ASL 1 and ASL 2 classes were the only ones that were approved courses with the UC system.

I worked with Vice Principal, Bryan Martin in getting ASL 3 approved.  During the 2017-2018 school year, ASL 3 was approved.

Over the summer of 2018, I worked hard on submitting for an ASL Honors course into the UC System.  As of August 8, 2018, the UC System approved OPHS's course ASL Honors.

ASL Honors is similar to ASL 3 but the course is more rigorous incorporating an analysis of ASL Literature (a stage play, ABC Stories, Personification, and ASL poetry).  We also make a field trip to see a play after studying the script discussing Deaf Culture and the language.

I am very excited that OPHS is able to offer these courses for enhanced language learning!

For school year 2019-2020 OPHS has ASL 1, ASL 2, ASL 3, ASL 3 Honors and ASL 4 Honors.

I am currently in the loop of the developments of an ASL AP course with the national level Education Testing Service and the course will be release very soon!
