RIGHT THIS WAY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!Come one, come all for GEOFEST: A Festival of Cultural Diversity! Celebrated once a unit, this activity allows students the opportunity to teach and learn about lifestyles around the world, as well as to participate in cultural activities. The goal is to foster an appreciation for the wealth of experiences just waiting to be had, out there, worldwide...
-PROJECT RUBRIC-Students are guided, step-by-step, through the GEOFEST process. An activity overview, as well as a grading rubric, are provided to students to promote awareness and responsibility.Take a look at how the activity is assessed, by clicking here!-JUMP-START/ CHECK-UP-Student groups will have the opportunity to begin GEOFEST by completing the 'In-Class Jump-Start' to help them on their journey. The 'Check-Up', (of work-in-progress), will be completed outside of class as a benchmark of progress made up to that point.Interested in seeing the requirements for these two components? These folders, on every topic and region possible, contain helpful hints for research, possible 'souvenir' ideas, and potential travel activities, (hands-on teaching experiences), many provided by students themselves, proudly contributing as GEOFEST veterans.For some helpful hints of where to start, click here!-THE TO-DO LIST-This step is an opportunity for students to preview their "final drafts" of all required components of GEOFEST, get feedback on any suggested revisions, and ask any questions they might have...
Interested in seeing the requirements for this component, click here!-THE EVALUATION-After completing their presentation, students will be provided an evaluation to be completed individually and turned in the following class period; it is not accepted late or incomplete. This will allow students to have the opportunity to reflect upon their experience; the objective being that students assess themselves fairly and honestly, with an emphasis on strengths, initiative, and lessons learned.To take a look at what the evaluation is asking, click here!-“CAN'T-MISS TRAVEL TIPS”-“Can’t-Miss Travel Tips" will be provided in order to guide, (but NOT limit), student journeys in uncovering INTERESTING descriptions and examples of the UNIQUE AND ENGAGING characteristics of the area of cultural study selected. A variety of resources are to be utilized, but students are STRONGLY cautioned to avoid dry statistics and 'stale' information! INCLUDE ONLY THE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION!!!
