Course Description:
Algebra I focuses on solving and graphing linear equations, linear inequalities and quadratic equations.
Everyday Suggested Materials:
1. Textbook
2. Notes Packet
3. Pencil (No pen)
4. Dry-erase marker
5. Graph paper
6. Notebook paper
Classroom Rules
1. Respect for the teacher, other students, and the classroom will be expected at all times.
2. Bring all required materials to class everyday. These will not be available if you neglect to bring them to class. You will not be excused to go to your locker to get any of these items.
3. All items that are disruptive or inappropriate in the classroom will be confiscated for the day.
Academic Honesty:
There is an absolute zero tolerance policy with regards to copying or giving homework, quizzes, tests, and/or any other assignments to another student. You will get a zero on the assignment.
Homework Policy:
Homework will be assigned and checked daily. All work must be shown to receive credit. No late homework will be accepted.
Each day you will use a new notebook piece of paper. The top will be the warm up for the day. Below that, you will do the homework for that section.
On the top of your homework assignment you must include the section of the assignment as well as the page number(s) and list of the problems. These will also be posted on my website.
Example:
Warm up 1.1
Section 1.1 #1-31 odd, 43, 45
You will get 1 point for completing the warm up and 4 for completing the homework for a total of 5 points per section. I will collect the homework each day.
Absences:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. You must make up any in class assignments, homework, quizzes or tests you missed. You must get notes from another student. If you have an excused absent, you have one week to make up a test from the day you return back to school and 3 days to make up any quizzes. You can make up the tests and quizzes during 7th period on even days and lunch on odd days.
Rules:
If you are going to miss school for any school activity:
1. The student should notify teacher in advance.
2. It is the student’s responsibility to get class notes from another student or copy teacher notes if available.
3. Student should read the missed section(s) and attempt homework before attending extra help.
4. Student should attend extra help the day after the class they miss for aide in understanding missed material.
Grading and Assessments:
All tests, quizzes, homework, and semester finals are weighted. Following is the breakdown:
Tests: 40%
Quizzes: 20%
Homework 10%
Classwork/Participation 10%
Semester Final 20%
Grade Scale
90%-100% A
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
60%-69% D
59% and below F
Tests:
There will be a unit test at the end of each chapter. The dates of the tests are detailed on the homework sheet/calendar provided at the beginning of each new chapter. The tests will be 100 points. The tests will be split into two parts. One part will be worth 85 points and the other will be 15.
Quizzes:
The calendar details quizzes administered during each chapter.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned every class period other than the day of tests. You must show all of your work to get credit. Homework will be checked based on completion rather than accuracy. I will stamp your homework each day. Your homework must follow the format provided or you will receive NO credit.
Classwork/ Participation:
Each day you have the opportunity to earn 10 points. Points will be deducted if any of the following occur:
1. Disrespect
2. Doing other classwork not related to Math
3. Not coming prepared to class
4. Being off task
5. Not completing your classwork
7th period support and Lunch:
I will be available during 7th period on even days and lunch on odd days. This it the time to make up quizzes or tests as well as come in with SPECIFIC questions. Do not come in and say you just do not get it. You need to have attempted the work and be able to show where you were stuck.
Cell Phones/Electronic Devices:
If you are seen using any electronic device during a lecture, your name will go on a list and you will never be able to ask me questions about that particular lesson ever again. Cell phones will be checked in to me before each test and quiz.
