NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS
The OPHS Science Department is dedicated to implementing both the three dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core into each of our courses. It is a dynamic process that includes utilizing the following: Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) with their Performance Expectations (PEs), Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs) and the National Science Framework (This is a link to the National Science Framework -large document).The following are combination documents that include the Story Line, Performance Expectations, Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas and Crosscutting Concepts for each discipline:Here are a few documents that we have written/individualized and are using in our own implementation:Notebook Lesson of Science and Engineering Practices for NGSS and this is a pdf version of this same presentationThe following are links to websites for further information:Details:It is anticipated that the California Science Standards/Framework will be available in November of 2015 but not adopted until January 2016. What you are looking at above are the National Standards - California State Standards will be very similar. The first assessments, which could be a pilot program will not occur until Spring of 2016 for Juniors only. Curriculum materials (other than our own that we develop) will become available in 2016-17.
