• Humanities consists of two subjects:  Social Studies and Language Arts.  In social studies we cover ancient human development to the Roman Empire.  Language Arts uses both short stories and novels during the year to develop the student's understanding and appreciation of literature as well as to teach key literary terms.  We also focus on writing and the skills necessary for writing, such as spelling, parts of speech, punctuation, paragraphing, and written dialogue.

The core literature books we read are A Long Walk to Water, The Giver, and Ulysses.
Grammar is also taught from the Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Language Book.  We will cover nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, prepositions, subjects and predicates.
