• Music Picture        Band & Chorus

Under the leadership of Elana Levine and Elayne Roesner, approximately 300 Medea Creek students, ranging in ability from the beginner to the more advanced third year musician, participate in choir and band offerings.  The following ensembles are offered:

    TREBLE CHOIR:
Treble Choir is a multi-grade level ensemble open to all Medea Creek students that performs demanding but appropriate literature that encompasses a wide array of music from classical to popular.  Choir is opened to all grade levels, although there may be separate classes for different grades and/or levels.

    BEGINNING BAND:
Beginning Band is for students with no previous, or less than one academic year of experience with band instruments: woodwinds, percussion, and brass (ability to play piano not applicable). Open to all grade levels.

    INTERMEDIATE BAND:
Intermediate Band is a second level group for students with a "B" grade or better in Beginning Band or the recommendation of the director. This class is only available to 7th and 8th grade students.  Students may enroll in Intermediate Band for more than one year.

    ADVANCED BAND:
Concert Band is for the advanced middle school musician. Students perform music above the level of the Intermediate Band. Class size is limited and governed by appropriate instrumentation. Acceptance into Concert Band is based on recommendation of the director, and in most cases, is only available to 8th grade students.

    JAZZ BAND:
Students participate in Jazz Band as a before school, audition-based club. Students are selected by the band director through audition.  Jazz band meets 2 to 3 mornings a week before school. Students who choose to audition for Jazz Band must also participate in a Band or Choir class as their elective during the year or years that they are in Jazz Band.

    STRING ORCHESTRA:
String Orchestra is open to all playing levels of students on violin, viola, cello or string bass. Emphasis in this course is placed on teaching basic string orchestra instrumental skills and music reading. This class is for students in 6th-8th grade.
