• Vocal & Instrumental Music

    Under the leadership of Elana Levine and Elayne Roesner, approximately 300 Medea Creek students, ranging in ability from the beginner to the more advanced third year musician, participate in choir, band, and string orchestra offerings.  The following ensembles are typically offered:
     

    Vocal Music

    BEGINNING PANTHER CHOIR
    The Beginning Panther Choir is a beginning level ensemble open to all Medea Creek students in 6th grade,  This choir performs demanding but appropriate literature that encompasses a wide array of music from classical to popular, to musical theater, and so much more. 
     
    ADVANCED PANTHER CHOIR
    The Advanced Panther Choir is a multi-grade level ensemble open to all Medea Creek students.  This group performs demanding but appropriate literature that encompasses a wide array of music such as traditional choral compositions, classical pieces,  pop, musical theater, etc.  Choir is open to grades 7 and 8, although there may be separate classes for different grades and/or levels.  
     

    Instrumental Music

    BEGINNING BAND:
    Beginning Band is for students with no previous, or less than one academic year of experience with band instruments: woodwinds (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone), percussion (mallets, snare & auxiliaries), and brass (trumpet, french horn, trombone).  Open to all grade levels.

    INTERMEDIATE BAND:
    Intermediate Band is a second level group for students with a "B" grade or better in Beginning Band or with the recommendation of the director. This class is only available to 7th grade students.  

    ADVANCED BAND:
    Advanced Band is for the advanced middle school musician. Students perform music above the level of the Intermediate Band. Class size is limited and governed by appropriate instrumentation. Acceptance into Advanced Band is based on recommendation of the director, and in most cases, is only available to 8th grade students. 

    JAZZ BAND:
    Students participate in Jazz Band as a before school ensemble. Students are selected by the band director through audition.  Jazz band meets 2 to 3 mornings a week before school. Students who choose to audition for Jazz Band must also participate in a Band, Choir, or Strings class as their elective during the year or years that they are in Jazz Band.
     
    BEGINNING STRING ORCHESTRA:
    Beginning String Orchestra is open to students with no previous, or less than one academic year of experience on violin, viola, cello or string bass. Emphasis in this course is placed on teaching basic string orchestra instrumental skills and music reading. This class is for students in 6th-8th grade.
     
    ADVANCED STRING ORCHESTRA:
    Advanced String Orchestra is open to students with at least one year of experience on violin, viola, cello or string bass. Emphasis in this course is placed on teaching basic string orchestra instrumental skills and music reading. This class is for students in 7th-8th grade.
