    • AR Pre-Approval form and book check: 9/5/14
    • Last day to change books with teacher approval: Thursday 10/9/14
    • AR Test deadline date: Thursday 10/23/14

To Choose and Pre-Approve a book:

    1.  Choose something that interests you.  Check the MCMS AR list to make sure a quiz is available.  The book must be worth at least 7 AR Points ("level" of book does not matter).

    2.
Check to make sure the book is not on the 7th Grade List of Books INVALID for AR:
    3.  Complete the "Accelerated Reader Program" form you received in class.  Fill it out completely (including AR points) and have a parent or guardian sign it.

    4.  Bring "Accelerated Reader Program" from to school along with a copy of the book.  Ebooks are allowed, but must still be shown to the teacher.  Upon reading the form and seeing the book, teacher will either approve book or ask you to choose a new one.  If the "Accelerated Reader Program" form is lost by the student, you will lose two "Q" points from the quiz score.

To Change Your Book After Pre-Approval

    1.  If you wish to change your AR book after you've been pre-approved, you must repeat ALL of the steps above "To Choose and Pre-Approve a Book."

    2.  Changes can only be made up until two weeks before the AR Quiz Deadline.  Once you are in that final two week countdown, you are "locked" into the book for which you've been pre-approved.

To Prepare for Your AR Quiz

You must show understanding of your novel before you are allowed to take the quiz.  To do this, you must complete the story questions on the back of the "Accelerated Reader Program" form.  Here are replacement questions, if needed.

    To Take Your AR Quiz

    1.  It is your responsibility to watch the deadline for the quiz.
    2.  Make an appointment with your teacher to take the quiz.
    3.  To take the quiz, you must have completed the comprehension questions on the back of the Pre-Approval form.  No  questions  = no quiz = no "Q" points.
    4.  If interested, you can opt to film a "video review" instead of completing the comprehension questions.  Those guidelines are available at this link to "AR Video Review Option".
    4.  When you take the quiz, a score of 70% or higher will result in 30 "Q" points.  A score of 69% or below will result in a corresponding percentage of the 30 points.
    5.  If you receive 60% or below and there are more than two weeks before the final deadline, you have the option of pre-approving a different book and taking a new quiz.  If there are less than two weeks before the deadline, you do not have that option.
    6.  Students who do not take their quiz and miss the AR deadline will receive 0 "Q" points.
