Fall 2024 Message from the Superintendent
Dear OPUSD Community,
The 2024-25 school year is off to a terrific start, filled with energy, engagement, and an outpouring of community support. During my first three months as Superintendent, I’ve been inspired by our students' enthusiasm and by the commitment of our staff and parents to fostering a well-rounded educational experience. Throughout our campuses, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication to supporting the whole child—academically, athletically, and artistically. Our students are not only deeply engaged in their learning but are also thriving in activities that nurture their interests and growth.
In classrooms, I’ve witnessed our educators bring literacy to life in TK-12th grade, prioritize social-emotional wellness, and implement effective academic interventions to support student learning and growth. I am continually impressed by our staff’s dedication to meeting each student where they are and helping them realize their full potential.
The enthusiasm of our students and parents has been on full display at events like Homecoming, OPHS’s music and theater performances, athletic events, author visits, cultural celebrations, and OPEF’s Monster Mash Dash. A highlight of my time so far at OPUSD has been connecting with students across our campuses. I’ve made several “friends” and look forward to making many more as the year continues. Our students have left a lasting impression on me with their politeness, courtesy, and kindness toward their peers and adults alike. Many have stopped to introduce themselves, offer directions, and ask what I enjoy most about Oak Park. One student even invited me to a game of pickleball, promising to teach me first—an invitation I look forward to taking up soon!
Looking ahead to November 1st, our pupil-free day will be a packed professional development day for educators. This day will focus on critical topics, including classroom interventions, Generative AI, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the science of reading, common formative assessments, and a workshop led by the ADL on challenging bias and antisemitism. These sessions reinforce our commitment to providing equitable, inclusive, and impactful education for all students.
Thank you for the warm welcome and the opportunity to grow alongside such a dedicated community. I look forward to the many achievements, friendships, and memories we’ll continue to build together.
Anais Wenn
