Message from the Superintendent
Welcome to Oak Park!
I am excited for my second year as Superintendent of the Oak Park Unified School District (OPUSD) and welcome back our outstanding certificated and classified staff, our students that are second to none and our supportive families that have been with us through the years here in Oak Park. In addition, I also want to send out a warm welcome to those of you who are new members of our Oak Park family.
This year we are making an even stronger commitment to our focus on a Climate of Care for all. The positive connections that our teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff make with our students is not only critical to a students’ academic success, but also to their overall wellness. I’ve always said “our students don’t care what we know, until they know that we care”. One way to show that we care is through our comprehensive counseling program (DK-12). Our full-time school counselors in each of our elementary schools, and at Medea Creek Middle School, Oak Park High School and Oak View/OPIS, provide the resources and support necessary for our students to thrive in their academic pursuits. In addition, the opening of our first-ever Wellness Center at Oak Park High School will add another much-needed layer of social-emotional support for both students and staff.
To be able to continue to provide a world-class education from preschool through 12th grade we all need to work together as a team with all of our educational partners. One of the most important partnerships here in Oak Park is with our families. We truly value the partnership that has been created over the years between the district, our schools, and our families and believe that this teamwork allows us to provide a world-class education to our students. We ask that you get involved and become a member of our school site parent organizations, the Oak Park Educational Foundation (OPEF) and one of our committees. Moreover, on behalf of the Oak Park USD Board of Education and I, we want to thank the Oak Park community for your support of our schools through our Measure S bond program.
How does the OPUSD consistently rank as one of the highest performing school districts in Ventura County, the state, and the nation? The answer is we have an exceptional group of highly skilled and dedicated teachers, administrators, caring counselors, support staff and coaches who do everything they can to ensure student success from when a student enters our district through high school graduation.
Our supportive Board of Education sets the direction for the district, sustains the vision and mission, and our teachers, administrators and support staff deliver on that promise each day with our students. To bring this all together, our families provide a tremendous amount of support for our school sites and district.
In the OPUSD, our students are truly incredible! From our youngest to our oldest students, they excel in their academics, activities, performing arts, student leadership, and athletics. I can walk into any classroom in our district and witness the magical combination of highly skilled teachers and engaged students on a daily basis. The talents of our students are also on display in other areas such as art, music, drama, Mock Trial and journalism, as well as the CIF, league and championships our teams and individual student-athletes earn each year while competing for Oak Park High School. We also offer two of the best alternative education programs in the state at Oak Park Independent School (OPIS) and Oak View High School, where our students receive an outstanding educational experience.
Our district motto is to “Educate Compassionate and Creative Global Citizens.” In Oak Park, our students bring their diverse interests and needs to our campuses and flourish in the safe and caring environments that we provide for them. We appreciate that our parents place their children in our trust each day, knowing their children will all have daily meaningful learning experiences that will lead to their development as compassionate, creative, capable, responsible, happy, and caring people who will thrive during their time in Oak Park and into their adult years.
Jeff Davis, Ed.D.
