Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Student safety is EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY. There are Crossing Guards at Hawthorne/Rockfield and Tuscany/Rockfield. We urge you to avoid the traffic in the parking lot by dropping off your child with the Crossing Guard who guides students across the crosswalk. Red Oak encourages parents to arrange for carpooling whenever possible and for students to walk to school if possible.
The following procedures have been developed to provide a safe and efficient way to get our students to and from school safely each day.
Before School Driving Drop-Off Procedures
Every driver is responsible for following these rules and keeping students safe:
- Cell phone use by drivers is forbidden while in the car line.
- The driver must stay in the car at all times - the driver cannot help their child get out of the car to keep traffic moving.
- Drop off children in the marked white curb area only. Pull all the way forward before dropping off your child so as to not cause a back-up of cars behind you.
- Follow the directions of staff directing traffic
- Cars cannot use the left-hand lane and then cut into traffic in the right-hand lane. This can cause car accidents.
- Be respectful to staff members helping your child get out of the car. Staff members will open up the car door for your child at times.
- Please arrive in the drop-off lane by 8:10am to ensure your child is on time for school.
- If you are parking on the street, it is imperative that you do not park in a spot that has the curb marked as red. You must use crosswalks - children cannot cross the street where there is no crosswalk for your child's safety. Traffic is heavy during drop-off, and it is not safe for children and families to cross where there is no crosswalk.
After School Driving Drop-Off Procedures
Every driver is responsible for following these rules and keeping students safe:
- Cell phone use by drivers is forbidden while in the car lane.
- The driver must stay in the car at all times - the driver cannot help their child get out of the car to keep traffic moving.
- Cars cannot use the left-hand lane and then cut into traffic on the right-hand lane. This can cause car accidents.
- Pull all the way forward - your child will be waiting at the flagpole and will meet you once they see your car.
- Follow the directions of staff directing traffic.
- Be respectful to staff members helping your children get in the car. Staff members may open up the car door for children to get into their cars.
- After your child gets in the car, please pull all the way forward before merging to the left if you need to make a left-hand turn. Merging the middle of the pick-up lane causes traffic for other parents/guardians picking up their child(ren).
- If you are parking on the street, it is imperative that you do not park in a spot that has the curb marked as red. You must use crosswalks - children cannot cross the street where there is no crosswalk for your child's safety. Traffic is heavy during pick-up, and it is not safe for children and families to cross where there is no crosswalk.
- TK/K parents: On regular days, you can use the driving pick-up lane and leave your car unattended while you pick up your child quickly from the rainbow gate. On minimum days, parents of TK/K students cannot leave their car unattended. If you are the driver and the only parent picking up a TK/K student, you must park your car on the street and then walk to pick up your child so as to not cause a back-up of traffic since the whole school is dismissed at 12:15 pm on minimum days and conference days. Thank you for your understanding.
Walking Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures
If you walk to/from school, please use crosswalks and be sure to listen to the instruction given by the crossing guard(s). If your child is riding their bike to/from school, they must wear a helmet. When students enter the school parking lot off of Rockfield, they are considered to be on campus. All bikes must be walked once on campus. There is a designated area on the field behind a gate for students to park their bikes.
Please note that animals are not allowed on campus. Please leave your animal(s) at home when walking your child(ren) to school and picking them up.
Students must be picked up promptly at their scheduled dismissal time. Our school does not have the staff available to supervise your children after their scheduled dismissal time. Please make sure you are prompt in picking up your child(ren). Under no circumstances are children to play unattended on the playground or go to the park unattended while waiting to be picked up. Students need to be picked up promptly or enrolled in either Club Oak Park or an enrichment class.
