End Of The Year Message From Our Principal

    Dear Oak Hills Families:

This has been a year of many accomplishments at Oak Hills, and perhaps that is why it seems to have flown by.  One of these accomplishments has been earning the California Distinguished Schools award.  This week, the CDS writing team of Quincie Melville, Keri Lieberman, Beth Ruben, and Heather Sloan joined me to receive the award.  It was an honor to represent Oak Hills as State Superintendent, Tom Torlakson, presented us with this recognition.  Lianne Arnold was also a member of our writing team, but was unable to attend the event.  Our CDS team did an outstanding job of gathering data from their colleagues and creating a compelling application document.  Most importantly, we owe a huge thank you to our entire staff, PTA volunteers, and students for earning this distinction.

This year's Open House was a great success.  It was fun to see students so excited to show off all the work that had been carefully set-up in each classroom.  The following morning the students traveled from room to room to admire the creative work of their schoolmates.  This also provided a glimpse of the learning opportunities they will enjoy as they move up through the grades.  Click here to read the full message...

    June 2, 2014

End Of The Year Message From Our PTA President

It's rare that I'm present enough to take a moment and breathe in my current situation.  Often rushing around between activities or trying to accomplish various tasks, I often lose track of what's happening in my life right now.

Friday night at the Family Fun event, once all the jobs had been accomplished and the movie had begun, I was racing to my car (why?) when I stopped dead in my tracks with this realization....

How will I ever leave this place?  How will I ever say goodbye to Oak Hills?

I know this sounds hopelessly hokey and overly sentimental, but it struck me at that moment how special our school is and how deeply it has buried itself into my heart.  Maybe it was watching our librarian, Tracy Belichesky and her husband, Carl, come to serve popcorn for the evening without asking for anything in return.  Or perhaps it was speaking with Arturo, our amazing night custodian, about how he has worked here for 20 years and coming to work is a joy for him because of the people and parents at this school.  Or possibly it was the time I spent chatting with Kanan Andresen about how she feels being a part of the PTA board has made her a better person and makes her feel part of something bigger than herself in a truly meaningful way.  I can't say for sure what it was that triggered my moment of introspection, but I felt it in such a profound way that, for a moment, it stopped the madness and chaos in my life and forced me to realize what I've known for quite awhile now...

Oak Hills is truly an extraordinary place.

Thank you for an amazing year.

Have a wonderful and safe summer.

Remember... take a moment to stop, look around and breathe it all in.

    Oak Hills Love,

    Irene

    Box Tops News

Another year has come to a close for box tops! Thank you so much to everyone for clipping and cutting those little coupons!  We've had another great year, collecting a total of 21,456 box tops for Oak Hills! At 10 cents a piece, that means we've earned over $2,145 for our school! That's great! You should all be proud!

As promised, the 2 classes that brought in the most box tops between January and May have earned an ice cream party. Those 2 classes are: Mrs. Rossiter's 4th grade class and Ms. Deel/ Ms. McGachey's 3rd grade class. Congratulations!

And the 2 classes that brought in the most box tops for the entire school year have earned a pizza party! Those 2 classes are: Mrs. Rossiter's class, with a total of 3,060, and Mrs. Trowbridge's class, with 2,446. Congratulations!

Please remember to continue clipping box tops this summer, and bring them in to your child's new teacher in September. Don't forget to look at the box top website over the summer, too. There are always free contests to enter, where we can earn cash for Oak Hills. There are great recipes on their website, and you can shop on-line, too, and Oak Hills will get some money for each purchase we make through the box top website. Please check it out! Thank You Oak Hills Families For Pitching In And Helping Out!

The Community Outreach Committee would like to thank the Big Sunday Volunteers who tackled some very Big jobs on campus.  With the help of Tony Knight, your pods received more amazing plants.  The pods were also cleaned out and refreshed with new soil.  The handball courts were painted along with the kindergarten boat, and both look beautiful.  Thanks to, Kim Gregorchuk, Oak Park Neighborhood School director, and parents, the bench was refreshed and a new play structure for our little ones was put together. We would like to personally thank Beth Schrock for heading up your site for the last 3 years.  A special Thank You to Mr. Warren for all of his support and guidance leading up to Big Sunday as well as his dedicated efforts the day of the event.

These projects, which have beautified and improved our campus, cannot be completed without the help of our generous sponsors. Please make sure to let them know how thankful we are when you use their services or visit their locations.

THANK YOU BIG SUNDAY 2014 SPONSORS

    Local Control Funding Formula Survey

    Dear Oak Park Learning Community,

The state has migrated to a new type of funding formula for public schools in California.  This new system is called the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).  Part of this change requires school districts to seek input from stakeholders regarding the goals and priorities for the future and the development of a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).  The OPUSD Board of Education would like your input into this process as they have decided to blend the Local Control Accountability Plan process and the overall District goal-setting process together.

Click Here For A Link To The Short Survey  It will be open until Sunday, April 27.
