OPHS PFC FAQ’s
If you don't see your question answered here, please email us at ophspfc@gmail.com

Q: How do I sign up for the Weekly eNews
A: OPHS weekly eNews bulletins are published and distributed once a week (generally Sunday evenings) with brief reminders, updates and save-the-date information.
Click here to sign up for eNews.

Q: I work. How can I help the OPHS PFC?
A: There are lots of ways to help. A financial donation would probably be the easiest way.
Please visit our “How You Can Help” page for more ideas.

Q: How do I get a Student Directory?
A: The student directory is online this year. You will need to be a member of the PFC to obtain an online password. The membership is $35.

Q. What is the “No Frills Fundraiser?”

A: The OPHS PFC supports the staff and students in many ways. In our No Frills Fundraiser plea we recommend a $250/student donation in order to cover all the important programs we support.
Please see our “No Frills Fundraiser” letter for details.

Q: Why should I come to a PFC meeting?
A: Even if you think that you don't want to volunteer for anything, you should still come to our PFC meetings. They are very informative. Mr Buchanan attends them and lets us know what is going on at school. (He has been known to dispel rumors.) You can ask any questions about school that you have on your mind, or you can make suggestions. You can also meet other high school parents that share your concerns about our children's education. Not to mention that they are always a lot of fun!
Click here for a listing of our meeting dates and times.

Q. What is the difference between the eNews and the School Newsletter
A: The eNews is a short information bulletin sent out once a week. The School Newsletter has all the details of everything going on in the school and is posted on the school web site at the beginning of every month.
Click here to read our Newsletter.

Q. What is the PFC?
The PFC is a group of parents and faculty who work together to provide volunteer support and funding to our school. The money we raise goes directly to the needs of our classrooms and our campus. PFC parent volunteers work with our faculty and administrators behind the scenes to further enhance our children's education. We welcome your involvement and encourage you to learn more about the OPHS PFC and the ways you can contribute to your student’s success.

Q. What does the PFC Fund ?
The PFC funds many activities. Here are a few examples:  Every dollar collected stays within our own school for the support of EACH and EVERY student. Textbooks and equipment for many departments including $19,000.00 for the science department, $5,200.00 for a 2 year Adobe Suite Software License, $3,500.00 for a new kiln for Ceramics, $5,000 in Senior Awards and scholarships, $3,000 for the Choir Accompanist, plus support for the Safe Schools Ambassador program, Teacher Conferences, Books, College & Career Center, Folding Mats for the Gym, support for Mock Trial and AcaDeca Teams and more.

Q  What classes does the PFC organize?
PFC provides mock (or practice) college entrance exam testing (SAT, ACT) several times throughout the school year, and the ever-popular College Application Personal Statement Writing Seminar.  PFC also helps organize the Adult Enrichment Classes.

Q. What scholarships does the PFC sponsor ?
PFC awards eight $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. Any senior with a GPA of 2.5 or above and plans for continued education is encouraged to apply. Additionally PFC sponsors an Art Award competition for artistic seniors; the winning entry is placed on permanent display in the Oak Park Library and the winner is also awarded $500.
