CHARACTER COUNTS
MARCH
EMPATHY
Character Counts is a program that we began to implement in January of 2012 school wide. It has existed at Medea for quite a few years and was previously implemented in the seventh grade Humanities classes. The intent of this program is to be a proactive means to emphasize positive values that can define moral behavior that students can not only apply within the classroom and on the Medea campus, but affect their decisions in other aspects of their lives as well. Each month there is a focus on all facets of a specific character trait with the expectation that students will be able to apply this information in different situations.
“No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care”
― Theodore Roosevelt
“The great gift of human beings is that we have the power of empathy, we can all sense a mysterious connection to each other.”
― Meryl Streep
The month of March focused on the Character Trait of EMPATHY. The definition of EMPATHY is below:
understanding and entering into another’s feelings
the ability to put oneself in someone else’s shoes
the power of understanding and imaginatively entering into another person's feelings
