We are pleased to announce we have added two new campus supervisors to our campus. They will be supervising students at recess and lunch (in addition to our four current supervisors) and will also be serving as security guards. Mrs. Franz is patrolling in the morning, and Mr. Blank in the afternoon. As a result, our campus will be patrolled from the time school begins until it ends.
Their primary responsibility is to walk the campus, making sure that no one is on site that should not be and that any volunteer or visitor is wearing a volunteer sticker obtained in the office. Please be sure that if you are on campus for any reason that you stop by the office, sign in and get your sticker to be worn the entire time you are at Red Oak. Also be sure to stop by the office and sign out before you exit the campus. In order to ensure the safety of our children, they will be enforcing all school and district policies and rules. We need everyone to be cooperative, respectful and follow the rules without exception.
If you are on campus at the end of the day waiting for your child(ren) to be dismissed, please remember that you must stay in the covered lunch area until the bell rings. Once the bell rings, parents are welcome to go the classroom to retrieve students. (If you need to speak with a teacher, please step into the classroom to ensure privacy and to keep from disturbing classes still in session.) If you also have an older child that is yet to be dismissed, please return to the lunch area to wait until the 2:50 bell rings.
One more reminder: Dogs are not allowed on campus unless they are trained service dogs. This is for the protection of any student or adult on campus, as well as protection for the animals.
Dear Red Oak Families,
Here at Red Oak, we are very fortunate to have so many parents willing to volunteer their time and talents to enrich our student's school experience. Every day, you will find parent volunteers here at school and at home helping with reading groups, planning and setting-up activities, making copies and baking cupcakes and so much more. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for doing what you do. You really make a difference here at Red Oak!
And I would like to add a special thank you to the volunteers which helped to make October a particularly amazing month:
- to Marcie Braddock and her committee for compiling and editing the this year's PFA School Directory with the new family business listings,
- to Diedre Dickey for coordinating International Walk to School Day
- to Christina Nejad, Andrea Klopert and their team for putting together our very first (and super fun!) Camp Out/Movie Night,
- to Lynn Edwards and cast for putting together a very informative and entertaining Red Ribbon Week,
- to Cathy Ginsburg and her team for baking and selling on behalf of our fifth grade class,
- to our Witchy Brew Crew Miranda Taylor, Jennifer Clark and all the parents who baked/donated goods on Halloween to raise funds for the purchase of a new laminator,
- AND to Dr. Duim and our Amazing teachers for putting on the best ever Halloween Parade! What a way to end a month.
And November promises to be another incredible month of activities - checkout the calendar.

COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS INITIATIVE
The English Language Arts and Literacy portion of the Common Core Standards are a culmination of an extensive effort to create the next generation of K-12 standards, thereby ensuring that all students are college and career ready by the end of high school.
The standards offer an integrated model of literacy with key features including reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language. They are research and evidence based, aligned with college and work expectations, both rigorous and internationally bench marked. These standards create a vision of what it is to be a literate person in the twenty-first century... Please click here to read entire message.
Santa Comes to Westlake/Agoura Food Drive
Red Oak will again be collecting food for the Santa Comes to Westlake/Agoura Food Drive. We will be collecting food November 18-22. This year we will be collecting canned fruits and vegetables. No glass or expired containers. Each classroom will have a collection box and we will be collecting at the morning drop off in front of school. This annual food drive has helped over 21,000 Conejo Valley families by delivering bags of groceries to their doorstep.
Student Council President
Thank you Red Oak families for coming to the Red Oak Camp Out movie night! What an exciting and fun time we all had! It was a great success and it was wonderful to see everyone there! It was also fun to see everyone's awesome and unique stuffed animals on Stuffed Animal Day! Please mark your calendars, as Thankful Grams will be sold on November 12-15 at recess for $0.30 or four for $1.00. Buy one for someone that you are thankful for, and they will also receive a friendship bracelet. It's a great way to let someone know that you care! And don't forget to wear Spirit Colors on Friday!
Karen Dotan, Student Council President

Community Ambassadors Wanted
Are you looking to get more involved in the community? Becoming a Community Ambassador may be the perfect way to get started.
The OPUSD Community Outreach Committee
is looking for a volunteer, or group of volunteers, to act as a liaison between the school district and the community at-large.
There are times when our neighbors may need and appreciate a bit of help: a thoughtful card; a home-baked goodie to celebrate a new birth; a welcome to the neighborhood; or, support through illness or a death in the family. If you would like more information or are interested in being a Community Ambassador, please contact the Outreach Committee at email@example.com
|Donate Extra Candy to Operation Gratitude |
OPUSD Community Outreach Committee will be collecting leftover Halloween Candy from Monday, November 4 through Wednesday November 6 at Red Oak to donate to Operation Gratitude. The candy collection is in honor and memory of Brian Wolverton, who attended Oak Park schools from K-12, who gave his life in duty to his country while serving in Afghanistan. Operation Gratitude is a non profit organization that annually sends care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation to U.S. Service Members.
