Welcome to 5th Grade Science
The Science curriculum in 5th grade is designed by FOSS and contains 3 units: Mixtures and Solutions, Living Systems, and Water Planet. All units covered are aligned to the 5th grade state standards. This class contains hands-on group experiments, video and image reinforcement, and hands-on simulations on the SMART Board. To learn more about each unit, you can access the FOSS website below. Each unit on the website has an interactive simulation or games for further review and extension, videos of all the experiments, vocabulary words, recordings of the textbook reading, and other resources.
To access my lesson notes please click on the corresponding lesson below. The textbook is not organized in chapters rather in investigations. So you will see lessons labeled "Investigation 1: Part 1" etc. Each Unit has 1 to 4 Investigations comprised of several parts. Quizzes are given at the end of every Investigation and a unit test is given at the end of the unit. Study guides are provided for all and can be accessed below.
Please note students will be tested by the state in May for not only 5th grade standards but 4th grade standards as well. To address this, I embed review at the end of each unit to correlating 4th grade content.
